SERVICES

OUR SERVICES

ASD Community Interpreting provides certified sign language interpreting services to the community on a fee for service basis, 24 hours / seven (7) days a week. Interpreting requests are welcome from both the private and public sectors. Advanced notice of ten (10) business days is preferred for interpreting requests. Service is contingent upon resource availability. Police, protective service, and hospital emergencies do not require advance notice. ASD Community interpreters are utilized in a variety of settings including those that are classified as educational, legal, medical, counseling/mental health and vocational.

 

All sign language interpreters working for compensation in Connecticut must satisfy the mandates of established law Connecticut General Statute Sec. 46a-33a, including annual registration with the state of Connecticut Department of Aging and Disability Services and submission of documented credentials, including certification by a nationally recognized board.

Virtual

Interpreting Services

Similar to ASL Interpreting, but provided virtually, interpreter(s) connect with clients through any number of preferred meeting platforms. The Deaf client watches the signed interpretation on-screen; other clients may be connected via audio or video. For more information about our built-in virtual meeting feature, click here.

Remote Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART)

A captioner receives access via telephone or computer and connects remotely to provide text-based translation, or real time conversion of speech into 95%-98% verbatim text (word for word) for individual viewers.

Remote C-Print or Typewell Services

A captioner receives access via telephone or computer and connects remotely to provide text-based translation, or real time conversion of speech into summarized text (meaning for meaning) for individual viewers.

Awareness trainings provided by Source staff that include an introduction to Deaf culture, best practices for working with interpreter(s), increased understanding of the many resources offered by the American School for the Deaf, and/or sign language instruction.
